Workspace at Tuftlab – your creative playground

Want to create your own carpet without turning your whole house upside down? Come free tufting at Tuftlab! You get two full days of our studio as your creative playground, including all materials, tools, and space to experiment. No lessons, just complete freedom — and our team is present during the day for questions or technical assistance.

How does it work?

Our brand new upper floor is all ready to bring your design to life — on the floor or on the wall.
Upon arrival, your 90×90 cm frame is already stretched and ready for you to start immediately. You draw your design on the canvas yourself, and if you want, there’s a projector to help you. After that, it’s your time: tufting, experimenting, adjusting, and continuing until you’re satisfied.

After tufting – choose how to finish

Done with tufting? Then you decide how to finish it:

🧵 Option 1 – Finish yourself at Tuftlab
Want to finish your carpet entirely by yourself, including gluing, trimming, and cutting? You can! Just make sure you make good progress with tufting on the first day, so you have at least 3 hours left on day two for finishing.

📦 Option 2 – We do the finishing & ship your carpet
Want to use all your time for tufting or live a bit further away? Then we’ll take care of the basic finishing for you. We’ll glue your carpet, apply the anti-slip layer, and send it to you via PostNL. We’ll leave the front alone — that’s your artwork. Want us to evenly trim the front too? Just let us know when booking, and we’ll arrange that as well.

Materials tools

You get access to our new upper floor, set up for free work:

• A workspace with a 90×90 cm frame (maximum working area 85×85 cm)
• Tufting machines:
  • Cut pile (7 mm, 15 mm, 40 mm)
  • Loop pile for loops
• Extra tools:
  • Projector
  • Various scissors
  • Heavy-duty trimmer
  • Electric carpet shears
  • Two types of glue
• Materials:
  • More than 30 colors of 100% New Zealand sheep wool
  • Tufting cloth, glue anti-slip finishing
  • You can also bring your own yarn to experiment

The rules

• You have already taken a workshop with us or you have demonstrable tufting experience.
• Afterwards, you sweep your workspace clean and tidy up the tools.
• You are responsible for the safe use of the machines.
• One booking = one full frame. Want to make multiple small carpets? That’s fine, as long as they fit on your canvas.

Booking

Free work is possible Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 17:00. You book two consecutive days by default. Would you prefer two separate days or different times? Just email us with your preferred dates, and we’ll see what’s possible.

Bring someone along and receive 10% discount on your entire booking. Has your guest never tufted before? That’s totally fine — you’ll guide them yourself. Is someone coming along just to watch? No need to let us know.

Tuftlab is located in the creative heart of Amsterdam Noord, surrounded by great places for lunch or drinks. Think of De Goudfazant, Skatecafe, FC Hyena, and Hangar. Come by bike, take the metro from Central Station, or park your car for just €1.60 per hour.
